The MA in Cultural Heritage Management is a newly-designed interdisciplinary programme drawing on expertise across the university and beyond to provide a sound formation in the mediation of contemporary issues concerning cultural heritage resources, and practical skills that will help you become an effective leader in this field.
The geographical focus of the course is the Mediterranean region, however the principles, concepts and approaches acquired will be global in scope and relevance.
The programme of studies extends over a period of eighteen months of full-time studies spread over 3 semesters and a four-week summer placement. Lectures are held in daytime, normally spread over three days a week.
The course is designed to permit students a degree of choice of courses, placements and dissertation topics, to tailor the course to your specific professional interests and sectors.
The course structure requires you to follow 30 ECTS of compulsory taught study-units, and to choose a further 25 optional ECTS. The taught component is delivered over two semesters during the first academic year. Seminars and group discussions will be strongly encouraged throughout the course.
In addition, you will be expected to write a dissertation (30 ECTS), follow a number of site visits, and to successfully complete a one-month summer work placement in an approved institution (5 ECTS). The first semester of the following academic year is dedicated to the writing of the dissertation of up to 25,000 words. You will also be encouraged to submit a shorter version of your main findings in an academic journal. The dissertation will help you develop the skills and competences required to conduct independent and innovative research in an area of your choice.
The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of a Bachelor鈥檚 degree classified at least at Second Class Honours or Category II, in a discipline related to Archaeology, Conservation, Education, History, History of Art or in any other area deemed relevant by the Board.
In exceptional cases the Admissions Board, on the recommendation of the Board, may admit into the Course applicants not in possession of a Bachelor鈥檚 degree, provided that it is satisfied that such applicants are in possession of other academic or professional qualifications and experience that together are deemed to be comparable to the qualifications listed above.
